ASN stands for Advance Shipping Notice, and is a notification of pending deliveries, usually sent electronically. It lists the contents of a shipment, and often provides additional information such as product descriptions and packaging types. An ASN helps the recipient more efficiently receive and process the shipment.
At Simple Global, we require our clients to electronically submit a complete and accurate ASN through the ONE platform before shipping product to our warehouses. Doing so helps avoid confusion and reduces delays in our receiving process.
Why Are ASNs Required?
ASNs let us know exactly what SKUs you are sending to us, as well as the quantity of each SKU. This helps us receive the products into inventory quickly and accurately.
ASNs help account for items lost or stolen in transit, as well as any other mishaps that may occur between the shipment leaving the manufacturer and arriving at Simple Global.
Without an ASN, our warehouse staff must determine what SKUs you have sent, and the quantity of each SKU. This will slow the receiving process significantly. More importantly, if a discrepancy arises between what you sent and what we received, it will be difficult to dispute since we’ll have no information regarding the intended SKUs and quantities.
If no ASN is submitted, Simple Global must create a work order to verify the quantity of each SKU present in the delivery. You will be invoiced for the work order, since such verification lies outside the standard receiving process.
ASN Problems to Avoid:
Inaccurate ASNs: Inaccuracies in your ASNs lead to inventory discrepancies that can take significant time to research and resolve.
Late ASNs: ASNs that aren’t submitted at least 1 business day before the shipment arrives at Simple Global cause delays in the receiving process. This in turn delays the availability of the product for fulfilling orders.
Improper or Missing Labels: Not labeling or mis-labeling the cartons in your shipment makes it impossible for Simple Global to properly identify what each carton contains. Be sure to print the labels when you create your ASN and affix the proper label to each carton.
Create and submit an accurate ASN every time you send products to us, and you will find that your inventory will become available quickly and with near 100% accuracy. This process is critical to creating a smooth and efficient workflow.
